Ebook About
The instant New York Times bestsellerThe New York Times Best Selling author of The End of Alzheimer's lays out a specific plan to help everyone prevent and reverse cognitive decline or simply maximize brainpower. In The End of Alzheimer's Dale Bredesen laid out the science behind his revolutionary new program that is the first to both prevent and reverse symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Now he lays out the detailed program he uses with his own patients. Accessible and detailed, it can be tailored to anyone's needs and will enhance cognitive ability at any age. What we call Alzheimer's disease is actually a protective response to a wide variety of insults to the brain: inflammation, insulin resistance, toxins, infections, and inadequate levels of nutrients, hormones, and growth factors. Bredesen starts by having us figure out which of these insults we need to address and continues by laying out a personalized lifestyle plan. Focusing on the Ketoflex 12/3 Diet, which triggers ketosis and lets the brain restore itself with a minimum 12-hour fast, Dr. Bredesen drills down on restorative sleep, targeted supplementation, exercise, and brain training. He also examines the tricky question of toxic exposure and provides workarounds for many difficult problems. The takeaway is that we do not need to do the program perfectly but will see tremendous results if we can do it well enough. With inspiring stories from patients who have reversed cognitive decline and are now thriving, this book shifts the treatment paradigm and offers a new and effective way to enhance cognition as well as unprecedented hope to sufferers of this now no longer deadly disease.

Book The End of Alzheimer's Program: The First Protocol to Enhance Cognition and Reverse Decline at Any Age Review :

I was just re-rereading Chris Kresser's "Unconventional Medicine" yesterday and then, as soon as it became available, Dr. Bredesen's TEOAP today. What strikes me most about both of them (aside from the tremendous dedication and erudition on the part of both authors) is that both could have/have had a much more powerful impact if these fellas had realized they should not try to write these books themselves.Or maybe in the case of TEOAP an editor more experienced in this genre? It's clear that he and his wife have put ALOT of work into this kind of second act to Dr. Bredesen's original work, TEOA (2017). And I appreciate all the new or updated references as well as the suggestions for testing and products. The growing case for amyloid beta as a protective element part the body's innate immune response (and that you might not want to get rid of it all-- or any?) is a concept I doubt many clinicians are aware of.I guess I wish he had laid out for us what is new or different in this 2020 version of his work compared to TEOA in 2017. From what I can tell, the focus on getting and staying into ketosis is a big one: "Research suggests that everyone with Alzheimer's has insulin resistance in the brain and therefore an urgent need for fuel, even if peripheral symptoms and markers are absent." (from p 70) One can kind of feel the earth shake with this statement. But is it really true of everyone? And is the only real test to experiment with a ketogenic diet?My own professional and personal experiences with ketogenic eating plans have evolved over the past five years or so, and I think just about everyone can agree that it's extremely difficult to pull off for more than a month or two. I also wonder about its effect on the gut microbial community.Similarly, the admonition to refrain from eating within a 3-hour window before bed I have found (again both from professional and personal experience) to be if not ill-advised than at least in need of clarification. Have a a big dinner and/or booze and then go straight to bed? Of course not. But many patients and family members have reported some of their deepest and most restful sleep after having, variously, a protein shake, full fat yogurt with banana or berries, flax seed, collagen powder, among other things, right before turning in. I think this detail might need to be re-examined.I also found it kind of perplexing that after removing Type 4 (vascular/pale) and Type 5 (traumatic/dazed) for publication of TEOA (2017), Dr. Bredesen, without any explanation, has revived them here.I loved his subtle take down of the elevated LDL hypothesis of heart disease though. I just don't see most people finishing this book with any clear idea of what to do or where to start. When you start to tell people they have to soak their nuts and seeds, can only have A2 or goat dairy, micromanage everything to avoid oxalates, lectins, goitrogens and antinutrients-- not to mention cadmium in cacao and cocoa, even the most dedicated followers are soon at great risk to quickly slide into Type 5 Alzheimer's: dazed! There's gotta be a way to present this in a more user friendly way. Just my 2 cents.
I read Dr Bredensen's first book, The End of Alzheimer's. In my Amazon review I gave him one star. New opinion of Bredesen with book two THE PROGRAM I am less pessimistic about the course of my Alzheimer's since I have completed nine months of my YEAR THREE book. Thus I feel more charitable towards Dr Bredesen's books. I was very upset with the title The End of Alzheimer's. His Avery publisher probably wrote the title of the book. I was most impressed by my finding in his data that associate Julie Gregory may be the first survivor of Alzheimers. The second book was published in 2020 and is dedicated to her (Julie G).Part II of the book is co-authored by her.  The most important information is that Julie G has had 8 years of reversal of Alzheimers .A year ago I would have argued she was impaired by anxiety not Alzheimers.  Certainly only an obsessive compulsive person could maintain such adherence to the many facets of the ReCode program.Presently, I am more willing to accept her case as it is presents itself now, I myself have done better on my tests in the 8th month of my third year since my diagnosis in December 2017. The PROGRAM  book is very good at explaining details of how to achieve the goals of improvement of cognition. For these reasons I have increased my rating to 3 stars.  His diet is impossible for the average person compared to Atkins.
